Care after birth

Postpartum care should not end at one six-week visit. Feeding, pelvic floor symptoms, recovery, mood and returning to movement can all change over time, and all deserve care.

For all care, we also look at lifestyle factors like diet, sleep, movement, and supplements or medications when indicated.

What to expect

  1. First two weeks

    Lactation consultation

Feeding problems are most treatable in the first weeks, and early consultation shortens the course. Bring your baby: the assessment includes them.

  2. Any time

    Mood

Postpartum mood is screened and treated in the same practice.

  3. From six weeks

    Pelvic floor evaluation

A clinician takes your history and assesses how your pelvic floor is working, with your consent at every step. You leave with a plan.

  4. When you are ready

    Return to movement

Postpartum classes scaled to where your body is now.

  5. Ongoing

    Contraception and the rest

The visits that come after the six-week check, for as long as you need them.

Recovery is not a deadline.

Returning to movement after birth is a progression, not a test. We make space for rebuilding strength, reconnecting with your core and pelvic floor, and moving in a way that feels good now.

Questions, answered

When should I get lactation support?

Any time feeding feels difficult, painful or uncertain. Early support can be especially helpful, but there is no wrong time to ask for help.

Should I bring my baby?

Yes. For feeding visits, your baby is part of the assessment.

Can Embody treat mastitis?

Yes. Our women’s health clinicians can evaluate and treat mastitis and other breast concerns, including when medication is needed.

What if I gave birth years ago?

It is not too late. Pelvic floor symptoms, core concerns and other changes after pregnancy can be evaluated and treated years after birth.

Does insurance cover lactation care?

Coverage depends on your plan. Our team can help verify benefits before your visit and explain available self-pay options when needed.
