Feeding problems are most treatable in the first weeks. Early consultation shortens the course.

What a lactation consultation includes

A full feeding history, observation of a feed, and assessment of latch, positioning, and milk transfer. The breast is examined when indicated.

You leave with a written feeding plan and a follow-up schedule.

Medical concerns

Mastitis, nipple trauma, and supply concerns that require medication are treated by our women’s health clinicians in the same practice. A lactation visit and a medical visit can be scheduled together.

Prenatal consultation

Prenatal lactation consultation is available for those planning to breastfeed after a previous difficult experience, with a known risk factor for low supply, or with a history of breast surgery.

Parent and infant

Lactation care is documented for both parent and infant. Some plans cover lactation services under the infant’s benefit. We verify coverage before the visit.

Common questions

Is Lactation care covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan. Many plans cover Lactation consultation as preventive care, and some cover it under the infant’s benefit. We verify your benefits before the visit. Self-pay pricing is available.

When should I book?

As soon as feeding is a concern. Consultation in the first two weeks has the greatest effect on supply and comfort. Prenatal consultation is also available.

Yes. Many feeding assessments can be done virtually. In-person visits are also available.

Do you treat mastitis?

Yes. Mastitis and other breast conditions that require medication are treated by our women’s health clinicians in the same practice.

Should I bring my baby?

Yes. The feeding assessment includes your baby.
